25 years ago the owners of Grano de Oro arrived in Costa Rica and fell in love with the country and the people.  Welcomed with open arms they founded and opened the hotel.  Here are THREE WONDERFUL CHARACTERISTICS YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT TICOS

Ticos are very expressive.
Do not be surprised when you are instantly greeted with a bright smile upon setting foot in Costa Rica! They may not know you, but these smiles assures you of their pleasure in welcoming you. And do not be startled if you are heartily patted on the back as this likely gesture is your warm welcome to the happiest country in the world.

Ticos are friendly and kind.
If, for example, you ask for directions, they will be thrilled to help you and might even offer to take you to the place you are looking for! Some Ticos do not speak any English, but will use many gestures and hand movements to get their point across. There is nothing better than visiting a country with spectacular natural attractions and at the same time, receiving the open smiles and helpfulness of a friendly locals. Ticos have no army!
Yes … this is a peaceful nation that abolished the army 68 years ago. Since then Costa Rica has had no civil conflicts or conflict with neighbors requiring military action. Police can be seen patrolling the streets on foot, on bicycles, in cars and in some areas, on horseback. Currently Costa Rica is home to the University for Peace, the ONU and the Inter-American Court of Human Rights. Undoubtedly this is one of the most outstanding features of this small country we invite you to explore.
