OUR FRENCH MEDITERRANEAN TROPICAL CUISINE!

 In blog

More than 20 years ago we had the pleasure of meeting and hiring French Chef Francis Canal. Fortunately, he fell in love not only with this country but with a wonderful Costa Rican woman. They married and decided to stay in this tropical paradise!  For 23 years we have enjoyed working with him and watching (but more so tasting!) as he masterfully merges Costa Rican tropical ingredients with French Mediterranean cuisine.  Few Costa Rican restaurants have been successful for 20+ years – this year we turned 25 and we are still going strong!

Our chef works hard to locally source ingredients and to really understand where they are coming from.  We use only sustainably caught fish and fresh ingredients.  Francis believes in our kitchen staff really understanding the ingredients they are working with and takes great joy in teaching them about a new product.

When you take a look at our menu, your first thought will likely be “which dish should I choose??!”. It will be hard to decide among the delightful dishes we offer.  An innovative appetizer is the Duck Breast Prosciutto, cured in house and served with a truffled salad.  As for an entrée a customer favorite is the Corvina Macadamia, Costa Rican sea bass breaded with toasted macadamias served with a light orange sauce. Due to its popularity this dish has earned a fixed spot on our menu.  Another favorite is a French classic – Boeuf Bourguignon, a red wine braised beef shoulder served with scalloped potatoes. The meat simply melts in your mouth!

Is your mouth watering yet??

The breakfast menu is highly enjoyed by our guests. The favorite? Fluffy pancakes!  Served with caramelized bananas and macadamia nuts or topped with fresh tropical fruit and whipped cream.  And of course accompanied by the best coffee … Costa Rican coffee!

We cannot miss mentioning the Dessert Menu and wine list. Our star dessert is the Pie Grano de Oro, two layers of rich coffee cream on a chocolate cookie crust. Simply the pinnacle of a good dinner or lunch (or breakfast – hey, why not??  You’re on vacation!)

Our Restaurant also houses an award winning wine cellar carefully stocked by owner, Ciro De Angelis, we have over 165 labels and more than 2,000 bottles of wine!  You are sure to find the perfect wine to accompany your meal.

Don’t miss the opportunity to visit us and taste the magic that Francis whips up daily!  San Jose has a great variety of exciting things to do that will help you build up a great appetite!
